The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), in association with the Sri Lanka Association of Software and Service Companies (SLASSCOM) is scheduled to host a forum to educate the IT-BPO and Knowledge Services industry on the importance of going public.

 The Forum is another step to attract companies that are of high value and worth to the capital market, in order for them to enter into a mutually beneficial partnership of wealth creation and value addition with the public.

The potential-issuer relations forum will be held on the 5th of March at the Dialog Future World Auditorium, from 08.30 am to 11.00 am

The programme will commence with an introduction to the benefits of listing by CEO-CSE Mr. Rajeeva Bandaranaike, followed by a presentation on “Valuing your Company” by Vice-President of Copal Amba (A Moody’s Subsidiary) Mr. Asanka Herath. Chairman-SLASSCOM Mr. Madu Ratnayake will also speak at the event.

The Chief Executive Officers and Chief Financial Officers of potential-issuer companies, from the target industry, will be given an opportunity to pose their questions to a panel of distinguished personnel from the capital market. The panel will comprise of Director-CSE Mr. Ray Abeywardena, AGM-Regulatory Affairs-CSE Mr. Renuke Wijayawardhane, Deputy Director General & Officer-in-Charge- SEC Mr. Dhammika Perera and will be moderated by Executive Director-SLASSCOM Mr. Imran Furkan.

The forum is further seen as an ideal opportunity for the decision makers of these entrepreneurial endeavors to mingle and network with the senior management representatives of Investment Banks, to build mutually beneficial relationships for the future.

We would anticipate a growth of over 23% YoY this year at industry level, therefore many of the SLASSCOM companies are now gearing for their next phase of growth. Listing on the Stock Market would create avenues for companies to raise funds for this growth acceleration and will provide the general public an opportunity to participate in this very exciting growth phase of the industry, as investors. ‘G-Data’ rings a bell, doesn’t it? If you are into IT and are conscious about your online presence, you know what G-Data is. G-Data being the pioneers in the Security Software Industry since 1987, having its presence globally for around 25 years now, was officially launched in Sri Lanka last Tuesday (21st Jan 2014) in a grand scale at Hotel Galadari, Colombo. Its German origin brings to us that quality assurance we all look for in BMWs (which we must admit, we see too much on Colombo roads lately).

Enoviz, a 25 year old Lankan based company is the Official Retail Partners for G-Data in Sri Lanka and Maldives. Director of Finance at Enoviz started off the event with her speech. We were entertained with a set of drummers in between speeches during the event.


We were made aware of the system requirements to run G-Data, which most probably needs very low requirements. It could run in a P4 machine as well and uses a Dual Scanning method which won’t let your PC or workstation slow down as many assume. They say this Dual Scanning System uses a hybrid scan engine which doesn’t slows it down, but boosts the PC up which is rather unique. Another unique feature about this product is that this does not have relationship or need for compliance with any USA based secret agencies such as CIA or the NSA since its origin is Germany.

Anuradha, Managing Director of Enoviz seemed excited about this launch because a big company such as G-Data partnering up with them re-emphasis the faith that is present of the company in the market today, he said.

The product itself would be available in the market by the end of January to be purchased locally and the enterprise edition will arrive soon too.

99X Technology places an unwavering emphasis on the development and advancement of its workforce, and in line with this, hosted its annual awards night and gala – Blaze 2013 – to felicitate employees’ achievements and the company’s own accomplishments during the course of the year. This was done with much fanfare in the presence of industry heads, members of the academia, company partners and employees and their spouses.

Held on 19 December at the Galadari, it was a night of much merriment and gaiety and a splendid time was had by all who attended, making it the ideal conclusion to yet another successful year by the company.

Awards given out included the Long Service Awards, Award for Most Outstanding Project Team and the much coveted CEO’s Award, and many more employees, who collectively refer to themselves as ‘Xians’, were also recognised for their personal successes and milestones reached.

A special award, the Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Contribution to the IT Ecosystem, was presented to IIT Dean and Associate Professor Alfred Perera in appreciation of his long-time service and vast contribution made to the Sri Lankan IT industry.

The Annual General Meeting of the Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) was held last week at theKingsbury Hotel and the new executive council for the year 2014 was elected. Ajith Salgado was elected as the President unanimously.

The CSSL was established in 1976 in Sri Lanka by a group of dedicated professionals for the purpose of promoting Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and professionalism among those engaged in this field, and to maintain the highest professional standards among the ICTprofessionals. CSSL has played this role for over 35 years now and is considered the apex body for ICT professionals in Sri Lanka. It is a not-for-profit body.

The new President Ajith Salgado has over 15 years of experience in the ICT industry. Mr. Salgado is the Head of IT of Sampath Bank and a member of board of governors of Arthur C Clark Centre for Modern Technologies. His academic credentials include BSc Engineering degree in Electronics and Telecommunications from the University of Moratuwa and Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree from the University of Colombo.

The other members of the executive council members are Dr. Dayan Rajapakse – Vice President, Yasas V.  Abeywickrama – Secretary, Luxman Perera – Treasurer, Dr. Malitha Wijesundara – Asst. Secretary, Prabath S Wickremaratne – Asst. Treasurer, Dr. Ajantha Athukorale – Student Counsellor, Udana Wickremasinghe – Publication Secretary, Mahesh Perera – Council Member, Chrisantha Silva – Council Member, Damith Hettihewa – Council Member and Sapumal Jayatissa – Council Member.

Making a speech at the AGM addressing ICT professionals, Mr Salgado said “The CSSL strategy for 2014 has six focus areas. They are Develop CSSL Brand, Strengthen CSSL Membership, CSSL Media Presence, CSSL Certifications and Accreditations, International Collaboration and Developing the Next Generation”.

He elaborated the strategies and their importance. “Developing brand is about further enforcing CSSL as the leading and relevant professional body for all in ICT industry. Increasing the membership will strengthen the society and the members it serves. Involvement in Certification and Accreditations demonstrates the capability of the organization.ICT is a global industry, therefore the CSSL will play a pivotal role on connecting Sri Lankan ICT industry to the world.

He also explained that the future of any industry is highly dependent upon the quality of the future generations that would join it. “This is true for ICT industry as well. The CSSL will play a national role in enriching school children by increasing their awareness on ICT”, he further added.

He further added that “the CSSL strategy for 2014 well aligns with the national ICT objectives set out by His Excellency the President in MahindaChinthana, namely creating a knowledge hub, 75% IT literacy and US 1 billion ICT related export by 2015. We are committed to developing the professionals in this field to achieve those objectives”.


hSenid Mobile, a multinational telco platform provider will sponsor the Engineers’ Forum on December 17, 2013 at the University of Moratuwa.

The Engineers’ Forum is one of the sessions to be held as part of “Are You Ready?” organized by the Rotaract Club of the University and Career Guidance Unit. The Engineers’ Forum is expected to create a platform for competent engineering undergraduates to identify various aspects of engineering problems encountered in the world of employment. hSenid Mobile CEO Dinesh Saparamadu will be a speaker at the event.

Sri Lanka has been awarded the prestigious “Outsourcing Destination of the Year” award by the National Outsourcing Association (NOA), UK at the award ceremony held in London recently.

The award was ceremonially presented to Mr.Lalith Weeratunga, Secretary to H.E the President by a delegation led by Chairman of SLASSCOM Madu Ratnayake and which included representatives of BOI and ICTA.

Speaking at the occasion Mr.Weeratunga stated that” ICT is being used by the Government as an instrument for rural empowerment and generating employment as well foreign exchange. This award will bring enormous attention to our growing ICT and Knowledge Services industry among the discerning international clientele.
