The mobile landscape has undergone a tectonic shift in the last couple of years with record numbers of adoption and usage. This has resulted in new ways of looking at old problems and re-definition of user experience in a mobile age. With this territory comes a whole new set of challenges as well as opportunities to re-invent traditional experiences with the aid of the smartphone. This session aims to cover the limits of these possibilities and explore what’s next.

A bluetooth 4.0 usb module is the only thing you need to build a pibeacon.
Android is a little late to the game. They introduced Bluetooth LE in Android 4.3 or above.
with something like this you can create a location enabled checkin app which will check-in for you automatically.
if you are on Android 4.3, you can go to the above URL and install the demo app to have a proximity enabled app which will transmit a low frequency signal and will pop up a smiley face on another device within the range.
Bluetooth is a very low energy consuming technology which make it really affordable. It is optimized for low power and low latency communication.
Downfall: you can’t stream data.
