Professor Induruwa pioneered academic and research networking and Internet deployment in Sri Lanka. He served as prime mover, Principal Investigator and Project Leader of the Lanka Experimental Academic & Research Network (LEARN), to provide data communications throughout the island in 1989.

Bob Hinden who pitched IPv6 also is a major role. He was inducted to IHoF in 2008.
By 2016 there will be three networked devices per person on earth. – Prof Abhaya
Vint Surf, Ray Tomlinson and Bob Matcalfe are the few of the pioneers of the eary stages of Internet. Tim Berners Lee also plays a major role.
All of these people were inducted to IHoF very recently. – Prof Abhaya

In 1994 we received 3 million rupees from the University Grants Commission and implemented LEARN the first IP WAN in Sri Lanka. In 1995 LEARN was connected to the global Internet. – Prof Abhaya
Prof Karunaratne gave me my first job and witnessed my wedding. I returned to Moratuwa in early 1980. A Department wide Ethernet connecting PCs to central UNIX machines was set up, and staff were trained. We were generously helped by a grant from the Japanese government. – Prof Abhaya
Professor KKYW Perera, Professor Sam Karunaratne, Professors Rohan Lucas and Sriyananda shared one thing in common: They were all stubborn – in a nice way, determined and dedicated. They all worked tirelessly with others to give life, meaning and identity to this new entity. – Prof Abhaya
We did not have proper lecture theatres at the time. Professor Dayawansa will remember teaching us Physics in what later became the canteen. – Pfor Abhaya

With British Councils Sri Lankas help at that time we got around 10 best Desktop computers into the campus premises. – Prof Mendis

That was the time when our age was idea to take matters into our hands. CSE department was founded with no place for it. – Prof Mendis
Integration of the department was very critical. This battle took a long and it is still going on.
Integration brings out the best in one. – Prof Mendis
We needed to make many changes when the department was founded and also when the hostel was up. We had to deal with Murderers and Student issues. – Prof Mendis
Arthur C Clarke Institute was the first of its kind at that time in the world which allowed many opportunities to be followed. – Prof Mendis
At the same time we had a corporate plans for the universities as well. The department was inspired by the parallel push by the chancellors. – Prof Mendis
It was really the paradigm shift in the tech field in SL at that moment in large amount. – Prof Mendis
When the department was started, the main goal was to implement a network among the unis and eventually it lead to Internet for Sri Lanka. – Gihan Dias
