Another awesome initiative by IMCD as part of their continuing commitment towards enhancing the lives of underprivileged children in Sri Lanka,”5000 Smiles” will take place at TweetupSL 4 on the 7th of December 2013 at the Mercantile Cricket Club. The aim of 5000 Smiles is to collect 5000 books at the event. Each book collected will bring one smile to an underprivileged child looking forward eagerly for the opportunity to learn something more, read a story or add to their school studies. The books that can be donated can be old or new, but they must be of acceptable quality for the use of schoolchildren.
TweetupSL is an informal meet up of the Sri Lankan Twitter community, and will include many fun events and networking sessions for the Sri Lankan Tweeps. This year at TweetupSL 4, the organizers have provided a valuable opportunity for IMCD to collect books for their Needy Readers project at the event.
International Movement for Community Development (IMCD), is an alliance of youth, with a group of passionate, energetic, enthusiastic, selfless young university graduates, as its’ founders, who pursue to make the society a better place to live. Evolving around this phenomenon, IMCD functions across a wider perspective with the core principle of “From the society, to the society, with the society”. All members have voluntarily joined with IMCD by sharing the same vision of creating a better world to live. Some of their major ongoing projects include Needy Readers(NR), Path To Wisdom(P2W), My Dream School(MDS), Colour A Dream(CAD) and Amuzed.
The Needy Readers project is mainly focused on collecting books and donating them to underprivileged children in schools and communities around Sri Lanka. Uplifting the library facilities of schools with limited facilities and providing books to schools with no such facilities plays a major role. Reading is the first step to becoming a versatile intellect and gathering knowledge, experience and changes in attitudes. There are Sri Lankan children without the opportunity to read but full of desire to discover the world through books, and the Needy Readers initiative is IMCD’s sustainable endeavor to make the dreams of these children, come true.
The Needy Readers team will be there on the 7th of December at TweetupSL to collect all your valuable book donations. This will be a great opportunity for you to make an impact towards a worthy cause by bringing a smile to a child’s face and enlighten their future.
