Eclipse Project :Best Open Source IDE

I think if you all familiar with any programming language, you may use some kind of IDE (Integrated Development Environment) There are so many IDE’s for various language as well as open source and commercial IDEs.

Eclipse is a multi-language software development environment comprising an IDE and a plug-in system to extend it. It is written in Java and can be used to develop applications in Java and other languages such as  C, C++, COBOL, Python, Perl, PHP, and others. The IDE is often called,

  • Eclipse ADT for Ada
  • Eclipse CDT for C
  • Eclipse JDT for Java
  • Eclipse PDT for PHP.

Cross-Platform
Eclipse is cross platform IDE and it is works well on Linux, Mac, Windows and some major platforms.


2004:The Eclipse Foundation was created
Eclipse began as an IBM Canada project. It was developed by Object Technology International (OTI) as a Java-based replacement for the Smalltalk based IDE products. In November 2001, a consortium was formed to further the development of Eclipse as open source. In January 2004, the Eclipse Foundation was created.

License
Eclipse was originally released under the Common Public License, but was later relicensed under the Eclipse Public License.

Both licenses are free software licenses, but are incompatible with the GNU General Public License.
