Aba Hatana – First mobile game based on a Sinhala Film

by W.G.T. Fernando

Jackson Anthony while making a historical film, made records in the Sri Lankan film industry by creating the film that stood for 101 days in all cinemas that it was open in. In doing so, he also broke records when it came to ticket earnings for the film and easily crossed the 100 million mark. No other film has been able to do so. A lot of effort had gone to creating the masterpiece and it is clearly shown when viewing the film. But he didn’t stop there. He went another step further and got a mobile game created depicting parts of the film. The job was assigned to GTS, the company that created the first Sinhala mobile game ‘Colomba Wate’.

And hence began the life of the mobile game ‘Aba Hatana’. It is a simple game with 3 levels. The gamer basically plays the character of ‘Aba’. First level takes the gamer through the training of fighting skills.

Only once the training is successfully completed will the gamer be able to continue to the next level. In the subsequent level, the gamer is faced with a task (that is depicted in the film as well) where the gamer will have to stop the intruders from coming to the village.

The second task in the second level has a fight sequence similar to that in the film. Many gamers who have played it have commented that this is the best part in the game and they have played numerous hours enjoying playing this.

The final level involves Aba trying to escape from death. He is needed to flee from the  soldiers who go after him using arrows and steel weapons. His objective would be to flee the soldiers, then jump to the lake and hide under the tree trunk (as seen in the film).  A PC format of the game is also in the making.

The game is compatible with Java enabled phones with MIDP 2.0.

The game can be freely downloaded by visiting http://www.abahatana.lk via the internet or using GPRS.

The game is a production of GTS (http://www.gtslk.com)
